2014: My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark

Oh, I never done this before
Never wanna do this again
Wrong turn on a dusty road
I did it to myself, I can’t pretend
Well, I learned just a little too late
Good God, I must’ve been blind
‘Cause she got me for everything, everything, everything, alright

Like my daddy I’m a gambling man
Never been afraid to roll the dice
But when I put my bet on her
Little Miss Snake eyes ruined my life
She better sleep with one eye open
Better make sure to lock her doors
‘Cause once I get my hands on her, Imma oh

Natalie ‒ she ran away with all my money
And she did it for fun
Natalie ‒ she’s probably out there thinking it’s funny
Telling everyone
Well, I’m digging a ditch
For this gold-digging bitch
Watch out ‒ she’s quick
Look out for a pretty little thing named
Natalie ‒ if you see her tell her I’m coming
She better run

The good lord better bless your soul
‘Cause I done already cursed your name
Don’t matter which way you go
Payback’s gonna come your way
You’ll be begging me, please, please, please
And now I look at you and laugh, laugh, laugh
While you sit there and cry for me, cry for me, cry for me all night

I spend a lifetime in jail (yeah, that’s what I’ll do)
I’ll be smiling in my cell (yeah, thinking bout you)
Can’t nobody save you now
So there ain’t no use in trying
Once I get my hands on you, Imma oh

Natalie ‒ she ran away with all my money
And she did it for fun
Natalie ‒ she’s probably out there thinking it’s funny
Telling everyone
Well, I’m digging a ditch
For this gold-digging bitch
Watch out ‒ she’s quick
Look out for a pretty little thing named
Natalie ‒ if you see her tell her I’m coming
She better run

I should’ve known better (I should’ve known better)
‘Cause when we were together (‘Cause when we were together)
She never said forever (She never said forever)
I’m a fool that played her game, hey

Natalie ‒ she ran away with all my money
And she did it for fun
Natalie ‒ she’s probably out there thinking it’s funny
Telling everyone
Well, I’m digging a ditch
For this gold-digging bitch
Watch out ‒ she’s quick
Look out for a pretty little thing named
Natalie ‒ if you see her tell her I’m coming
She better run

21.13: I Think I Dreamed You Into Life

In Your Eyes I See My Future In An Instant

For the daily text messages and the nightly phone calls… All before we ever set eyes on each other.

I will always love you.

***

Maybe it’s intuition
But some things you just don’t question
Like in your eyes
I see my future in an instant
and there it goes
I think I’ve found my best friend
I know that it might sound more than
a little crazy but I believe

[chorus:]

I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

There’s just no rhyme or reason
only this sense of completion
and in your eyes
I see the missing pieces
I’m searching for
I think I found my way home
I know that it might sound more than
a little crazy but I believe

[repeat chorus]

A thousand angels dance around you
I am complete now that I found you

[repeat chorus to fade]

I Knew I Loved You,
Savage Garden

Blessed Be…

18.13: Songs for You

It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

It’s not that I’ve had nothing to write about – on the contrary. I guess it’s rather hard to write about life when you’re a little too busy living it.

But we are all called to do certain things… And, once again, I have been called to put words on (cyber) paper.

*          *          *

I recently discovered this sweet song by Taylor Swift called “Begin Again”. It reminded me of how it all began for me with my husband all those months ago. Sometimes I wonder if he has noticed how many times I’ve played that song at home. What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic till the end.

Took a deep breath in the mirror
He didn’t like it when I wore high heels
But I do
Turn the lock and put my headphones on
He always said he didn’t get this song
But I do, I do

Walked in expecting you’d be late
But you got here early and you stand and wave
I walk to you
You pull my chair out and help me in
And you don’t know how nice that is
But I do

And you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it’s strange that you think I’m funny ’cause he never did
I’ve been spending the last eight months
Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

You said you never met one girl
Who had as many James Taylor records as you
But I do
We tell stories and you don’t know why
I’m coming off a little shy
But I do

But you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it’s strange that you think I’m funny ’cause he never did

I’ve been spending the last eight months
Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

And we walked down the block to my car and I almost brought him up
But you start to talk about the movies that your family watches
Every single Christmas and I want to talk about that
And for the first time what’s past is past

‘Cause you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it’s strange that you think I’m funny ’cause he never did
I’ve been spending the last eight months

Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

“Begin Again”
Taylor Swift

And because this song (and its video) is the cutest thing ever, it gave me the brilliant idea to list down songs that have mattered to me. To him. To us.

And here we go…

The Song: Love of My Life (The Wedding Song), Darla Day
The Words: “…You’re the one I prayed for long ago / Fearless trust I never thought I’d know / I’ve found the answer to my dreams / My eyes were opened to love’s mystery…”
The Reason: This song was given to me, mind you 🙂

The Song: Fade Into You, OST Nashville
The Words: “… If you were a window and I was the rain / I’d pour myself out and wash off the pain / I’d fall like a tear so your light could shine through / Then I’d just fade into you…”
The Reason: I LOVE this song. It’s the kind that has a melody that wraps itself around you and never lets go.

The Song: Blessed, Christina Aguilera
The Words: “…Blessed for everything you’ve given me / Blessed for all the tenderness you show / Do my best with every breath that’s in me / Blessed to make sure you never go…”
The Reason: Because that is how I feel every single day since I found you.

The Song: For All of My Life, For Real
The Words: “…For all of my life / You are the one / I will love you faithfully forever / All of my life / You are the one / I give to you my greatest love / For all of my life…”
The Reason: This was playing on the radio when you brought me over to my uncle’s house. That was a Sunday. I told you I fell in love on a Sunday.

The Song: Begin Again, Taylor Swift
The Words: “…I’ve been spending the last eight months / Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end / But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again…”
The Reason: Because on a Saturday in McDonald’s I watched it begin again.

The Song: By Your Side, Sade
The Words: “…When you’re lost and you’re alone and you cant get back again / I will find you darling and i will bring you home…”
The Reason: It’s Sade. And it’s jazz. It’s something I would dance to. And because I will always be there, by your side.

The Song: Have I Told You Lately (That I Love You), Rod Stewart
The Words: “Have I told you lately that I love you / Have I told you there’s no one else above you / Fill my heart with gladness / Take away all my sadness / Ease my troubles that’s what you do…”
The Reason: Because even though I have learned enough to always love myself a little more, I will always love you first and myself second.

The Song: When I Need You, Rod Stewart
The Words: “…When I need you / I just close my eyes and I’m with you / And all that I so want to give you baby / It’s only a heart beat away…”
The Reason: If I could give you everything you want, I would.

The Song: Everything Has Changed, Taylor Swift feat. Ed Sheeran
The Words: “…’Cause all I know is we said, “Hello.” / And your eyes look like coming home / All I know is a simple name / Everything has changed / All I know is you held the door / You’ll be mine and I’ll be yours / All I know since yesterday is everything has changed…”
The Reason: Because finally I have come home.

The Song: Over the Rainbow, Eva Cassidy
The Words: “…Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue / And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.”
The Reason: You always said this song sounded like hope. You, in turn, are my hope.

*          *          *

I will always love you.

05.13: A Little Fall of Rain

The Miserable Ones

So I finally got to watch Les Miserables.

After weeks of hearing how good it was and how much they cried over the film, I finally found myself falling in line, fervently praying that my beloved and I would find unoccupied seats in a rather full theatre. I cannot thank Don enough for agreeing to watch it with me – I knew he primarily watched because I wanted to. I did not expect the film to be as long as it was – it is never easy for me to sit still for long periods of time, so you would think two and a half hours would seem like a lifetime.

But it wasn’t.

So many people have made it known – either through actual conversations that left me salivating for a theatre tickets or the multitudes of posts made on (social networking site undisclosed) – that tears were shed during the film. Personally, I knew I would cry. I mean, I’m the girl who cried while watching Aladdin (when he told Genie that his third wish was for Genie to be free). What I did not expect was when the tears actually fell.

As the credits were rolling, I sent an SMS to my best friend… “You HAVE to watch Les Mis. And you HAVE to bring tissue. Like 10 boxes.” When we met up with him that night, he asked me if I really cried. I did. I felt like every time some character died, I cried. The problem was people kept on dying throughout the film.

No, watching it on a Sunday night wasn’t the best idea in the world because it left me with such a heavy feeling in my heart. I was surprised to find my tears falling during Fantine‘s I Dream a Dream, Eponine‘s A Little Fall of Rain and Jean Valjean‘s death.

As we walked out of the theatre, I fully understood why people kept lining up to watch this movie. It was truly a magnificent experience… A beautiful story with characters that were both flawed and strong… Its dialogue was done entirely through song yet every viewer understands… But most of all, at the end of two and a half hours, you understand why it was entitled “The Miserable Ones“. And this, more than anything else, I think, is what inexplicably draws us in and breaks our hearts.

After all, at one point or another, no matter how fleeting, we were all miserable too.

68 in ’12: Ooh La Love

Homaygad… This song made me smile so much today.

Celestial Bliss

*          *          *

Mmm
Hey baby
It’s you I truly adore
I finally found the
Peace of never wanting more
Singin’ a sweet song of
Who and where I belong
I see a vision of a love
That’s more than strong
I feel so fine, truly divine
My dream has
Come to life, hey yeah
You’re always there
On my mind

‘Cause when I need two arms
That can hold me tight
A tender loving kiss
That can make it right
Someone to chase the
Darkness into the light
I know it’s true
Baby, there’s none
Better than you

‘Cause my love is true, ooh

Oh my dear I can’t say
The way that I feel
You’re more than words
You’re more than
Pictures can reveal
Sugar is sweet but
With you it’s hard
To believe (believe)
There’s nothing to compare
You’re all I want and need
Eternally I’m gonna see
All that love can be
Yeah yeah
Heaven has given to me

Hold me tight
(Tender loving kiss
Can make it right)
Can make it right
(Someone to chase the
Darkness into the light)
I know it’s true
Yeah yeah
Baby, there’s none
Better than you

And I know in time
Our hearts
Will be together
I see your smile
And I see forever
Baby, baby
And our love is true
Ooh
There’s no one
Better, oh
There’s no one
Better than you

Better Than You
Lisa Keith

59 in ’12: Memories in Melodies

Yesterday, I listed the 20 books that changed my life. A lot longer than that, I started sharing songs that have special meaning to me over the years… I made it up to 10 last time. And here’s the next 10…

Once again, enjoy 🙂

*          *          *

The Song: I’d Lie, Taylor Swift
The Words: “…He stands there then walks away / My god if I could only say / I’m holding every breath for you…”
Why I Love It: I still think the hardest kind of love is the one that you can’t tell the person you love about. Sad, but true.
Who It’s For: Mr. M

The Song: U Got It Bad, Phillip Phillips
The Words: “…I’ve been there, done it, messed around / After all that, this is what I found / Nobody wants to be alone / If you’re touched by the words in this song…”
Why I Love It: I liked Usher’s version, I really did. But have you heard Phillip Phillips? I could feel myself drooling while looking in his eyes through the tv screen?
Who It’s For: Ah, I haven’t met you yet 😦

The Song: Waiting in Vain, Annie Lennox
The Words: “…In life I know there is lots of grief / But your love is my relief.”
Why I Love It: I fell in love with this song when I watched Serendipity, so now I forever connect that song to that scene when Kate Beckinsale opens the door and the rose petals are blown in the living room. I am forever in love with that scene.
Who It’s For: Me… Because there are days that I feel I am always waiting. In vain.

The Song: Bleeding Love, Hollie Cavanaugh
The Words: “…But I don’t care what they say / I’m in love with you…”
Why I Love It:I was never a Leona Lewis fan, so although this song came out a couple of years ago and although it had a nice beat, I never really got into it. When I heard Hollie’s slower, more heartfelt version on Idol, I just completely, head-over-heels fell in love with it.

Who It’s For: Old Man (formerly known as Baby)

The Song: Jolene, Dolly Parton
The Words: “…Please don’t take him just because you can…”
Why I Love It: Everything about this song intrigues me – from the melody to the rhythm to the words. I’ve heard so many versions of this song, but Parton’s was still the best.
Who It’s For: Some people would say that this song is something some girls would sing for me… And they would be right. *smirk*

The Song: Even Angels Fall, Jessica Riddle
The Words: “It’s a secret no one tells / One day it’s heaven, one day it’s hell / It’s no fairy tale / Take it from me / That’s the way it’s supposed to be.”
Why I Love It: From 10 Things I Hate About You (a movie with a totally awesome soundtrack) – it was played during that scene when Kat ran out of prom after finding out that Patrick was paid to date her. Prior to that moment, I have never heard of the song before – but it caught my attention and now I have it in my playlist.

The Song: The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, The Script
The Words: “…I’m not broke I’m just a broken hearted man / I know it makes no sense but what else can I do / How can I move on when I’m still in love with you”

Why I Love It: As I said, after Son of Adam, the break-up with Baby Bear is the hardest one I took.
Cover of "Man Who Can't Be Moved"
Who It’s For: Baby Bear

The Song: One Sweet Day (Acapella), Boyz II Men & Mariah Carey
The Words: “…Darling I never showed you / Assumed you’d always be there / I took your presence for granted / But I always cared…”
Why I Love It: This song came out in 1995. I’ll always remember because that was the year my father passed away. Needless to say, my father and I have a rather long and complicated story. But that is another tale and will be told at another time.
Who It’s For: Daddy Dearest

The Song: If I’m Not In Love, Kathy Troccoli
The Words: “…And if my heart is lying then / What should I believe in…”
Why I Love It: It reminds me of sophomore year… back when everything was so much simpler. I love Kathy Troccoli’s voice – so mellow and soothing. This is the kind of song that I would love to slow dance to.

The Song: Dear Lie, TLC
The Words: “…Afraid the truth would hurt me / When it’s you that hurts me more…”
Why I Love It: One of the better songs in their Fanmail album. I actually like “I Miss You So Much” better, but this isn’t half bad.

*          *          *

So that’s 20 down, 159 to go. I’ll get there, I have no doubt 🙂

Until next time…
